ABOUT THE VIDEOS:

EVIL (is boring)

Most of my stories start off with the phrase “my car broke down.”

I had met Amanda Stark the night before in Victoria British Columbia. The next day my car broke down en route to Portland , OR

I ended up living in my VW microbus for 6 months at the home of Daniel Flessis and Linda Stern and Robyn Shanti. I had and orange extension cord running to the house.

Amanda came down to some sorry open mic in Portland and we left to go write something. We couldn’t stand it! The only solution – write something. So, we went to a Kinko’s and rented time on a typewriter (remember those?) to write this script. The song is by me and Phil.

She and I went back to BC and got a bunch of her video friends together. We threw a party. Rented a keg of beer and talked the project up. Next thing we know we had volunteers, set builders, actors, camera people. It was all very exciting. We turned her poor house (A shack in the middle of a lumber yard) into a set and lived in it for months with Bob Jenson (he plays the security guard.) Her little brother is the kid in the TV. The keg of beer was our biggest expense.

Andrew Geoghan was a huge help directing the thing. Liana Kennedy was a tremendous mover and shaker and remains moral support.

Amanda Stark remains a mighty force to be reckoned with and one of my very best friends.

Paul Manly and Graham Dick shot the thing. Larry Ottaway recorded the song. Paul and I edited it. Thanks Paul – where ever the highway took you.

St James Infirmary dates back to a 17 th century drinking song which found it’s way to New Orleans and has been being played on the corner Toulouse and Royal for a long time.

This is what DR was doing when I met him. We played the streets together in those days. I shot this at Mardi Gras 1998 when I was living in New Orleans . Tom Roudebush in Austin , TX helped me with the editing.

That is Thomas Nuendel playing the fiddle – he is also on this album. DR found this video while we were working on this project – and it seemed inconceivable not to include it.

I like the guy dressed up in parking tickets – he reminds me of my car.
